Improving Drinking Water Quality

Improving Drinking Water Quality in Developing Countries

The Environmental and Water Quality Engineering track of the Master of Engineering degree program provides a thorough grounding in advanced knowledge and methods needed for a professional career in environmental protection. It offers a comprehensive range of subjects, including surface water and groundwater modeling, waste management and remediation technologies, hydrology, data management, aquatic and environmental organic chemistry, and environmental law and policy. One of the most enduring topics of student thesis projects is the design of filters for treating household drinking water and methods for improving sanitation in Nepal, Ghana and other developing countries, where students generally perform onsite research during January. This photo was taken in Nepal, where CEE has worked since 1999 on projects such as the assessment of water quality, evaluation and testing of existing technologies, and researching, designing and developing low-cost point-of-use household water treatment technologies.
