Research Interests

Professor Masic’s work is focused on investigating the structural and mechanical properties of biological materials, including the study of ageing and pathological processes. He is also interested in the degradation and preservation of cultural artifacts, historical buildings, and civil infrastructure.  He will bring his groundbreaking in-situ multi-scale Raman imaging techniques to Pierce, and will construct a state of the art multi-functional research platform (combining Raman, AFM, fluorescence, and in situ mechanical testing) for the high-resolution chemical and structural characterization of these materials.
