Research Interests

Professor Buyukozturk’s research program is focused on the mechanics, analysis and design of structures, and the use of innovative materials to strengthen structures. He works on the design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures and bridges, mechanical behavior and durability of concrete materials and composites, earthquake engineering and seismic design, interface fracture mechanics, fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in structural rehabilitation, structural assessment and nondestructive testing (NDT), thermo-mechanical analysis and design of refractory linings, and design evaluation and structural safety assessment of nuclear power containments.

Teaching Interests

  • Mechanics and Design of Concrete Structures (1.541/1.054)
  • Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Design (1.036)
  • Structural Mechanics in Nuclear Power Technology (1.56J)
  • Colossal Failures in Engineering (21W.781/ESD.032J)
