MIT and Tufts researchers revealed key nano-building blocks of natural silk to produce new naturally-based membrane filters that are more effective, less expensive, and greener compared to traditional products. This discovery could lead to new production methods and supply chain economics for water treatment facilities, food manufacturers, and life sciences organizations. The CEE researchers included Graduate Student Kai Jin; Postdoctoral Associate Shengjie Ling, and Markus J. Buehler, Department Head and McAfee Professor of Engineering. Professor David L. Kaplan contributed from Tufts University. Read more about their paper published in Nano Letters in MIT News.
