An article about the work of MIT’s Concrete Sustainability Hub appeared in the Feb. 21 issue of Nature. Writer Ivan Amato describes the CSHub’s research initiative to gain an understanding of cement at the atomic scale as part of its larger goal to create a more environmentally friendly product. (The manufacture of this ubiquitous building material is responsible for 5 percent of the world’s human-caused greenhouse gases.)
