Research from Professor Franz-Josef Ulm and research scientist Roland Pellenq shows city arrangement impacts the heat build-up of cities, a phenomenon referred to as the “heat island effect.” The researchers found that cities with more grid-like designs have more heat buildup than cities with more chaotic layouts, making these cities are hotter than their surrounding areas. The research was published in Physical Review Letters. Read more on MIT News.
