Postdocs win awards for work in microbial ecology

Yutaka YawataMelissa GarrenTwo postdoctoral researchers in Professor Roman Stocker’s research group received awards Aug. 24 at the International Symposium on Microbial Ecology in Copenhagen. Yutaka Yawata won the Brock Postdoctoral Research Award for his talk, “Mapping Genotypic Diversity Onto Niche Adaptation.”Melissa Garren received the J.W. Costerton Award for research that advances a new theory in microbial ecology that also has interdisciplinary significance. Her poster was titled, “The Need for Speed: A Marine Pathogen Uses Rapid Chemotaxis and Chemokinesis to Target its Host.”
