Researchers at MIT including CEE’s Professor Pedro Reis have conducted a variation on Galileo Galilei’s experiments on the motions of falling and rolling objects on an inclined plane. While Galileo used rigid materials for his tests, Reis and fellow researchers carried out experiments using flexible, hollow cylinders to derive a set of equations to describe the behavior of these “rolling ribbons.” Read a news story.
