Professor Cynthia Barnhart of CEE and the Engineering Systems Division has been appointed acting dean of the School of Engineering effective Sept. 8. Subra Suresh, the current dean, will be on sabbatical leave for the fall semester. In June, he was nominated by President Obama to be the next director of the National Science Foundation, an appointment that awaits Senate confirmation. Barnhart will continue her duties as associate dean for academic affairs and director of the Transportation@MIT initiative. Read the news story.
