Boston officials declared the 2015 Boston Marathon, held on Mon. April 20, a “no drone zone” the week before the event, employing an anti-drone technology developed by MIT CEE alumnus Brian Hearing ’97 to ensure the 30,000 marathon runners’ protection. Brian Hearing, co-founder of Washington, D.C.-based Drone Shield, explained the sensors would alert Boston police officers via email or text message if an incoming drone was nearby. According to Hearing, the two-year-old company volunteered its technology, and anticipates a paid contract for the 2016 marathon. For more information, please see here.
