MIT Steel Bridge Team sweeps Regionals

The MIT Steel Bridge Team walked away from the regional competition at Tufts University last weekend with first place in five categories: 1st Overall, 1st in Efficiency, 1st in Stiffness, 1st in Aesthetics, and 1st in the Paper Competition. Freshman Scott Landers, who will be majoring in 1E, represented the team in the paper competition. He received a score of 86.5, beating out the second-place Tufts paper presentation, which earned a score of 85.8. This is the fourth year that MIT has competed in the competition. The 2009 team won three first-place prizes at the regional competition, for Overall, Structural Efficiency and the paper competition, and placed 18th out of 47 at Nationals. The 2010 National Student Steel Bridge Competition will be held May 28-29 at Purdue University. Read the team blog.
